Falling into Construction—and Loving ItFor Matthew, construction was practically in his blood. "My family’s been in construction for a long time," he says. "I wasn’t really planning on getting into it, but I needed a job, and it just made sense at the time." What started as a way to pay the bills quickly turned into something he genuinely loved. "At first, it was just about making ends meet, but then I started to really enjoy the work," he shares. "I liked seeing a project come together, knowing that I was part of building something real and lasting. There’s something satisfying about walking through a finished site and thinking, ‘Yeah, I helped make this happen.’" I liked seeing a project come together, knowing that I was part of building something real and lasting. Over time, Matthew realized he had a knack for problem-solving and attention to detail—both crucial in construction inspection. "You have to be able to spot things other people might miss and think a few steps ahead. I guess I’ve always been the kind of person who likes making sure things are done right." His ability to keep projects on track and up to standard made him a natural fit for the job, and he hasn’t looked back since. From the Ground Up: Matthew’s Role in Construction
Though Matthew doesn’t live in Bremerton, his work here has made him an honorary local. "Once this project is done, I’ll move on to the next one, wherever that is," he shares. "But for now, I’m all about Quincy Square—and, of course, enjoying the perks of working from Spark Commons when I need a break from the construction site."
Matthew sees firsthand the work that goes into making this vision a reality. From coordinating teams to ensuring safety and quality, he’s at the center of the action. "It’s not just about the physical construction—it’s about setting the stage for something that will bring people together. That’s the exciting part." Spark Commons: The Unexpected Perk of the JobMatthew discovered Spark Commons while looking for a quiet place to work when he wasn’t out in the field, and it quickly became a favorite. "I was just looking for a place with Wi-Fi, honestly. But Spark Commons ended up being a lot more than that," he shares. "It’s a great space—good people, good energy. It’s nice to be around folks who are working on all kinds of different things." As someone who moves from project to project, Matthew knows the value of having a reliable spot to work when needed. "I’ve worked in a lot of trailers and job site offices, so having a space like this is a nice change of pace. I can actually sit down, focus, and get stuff done without the sound of heavy equipment in the background. Plus, I don’t have to worry about the Wi-Fi cutting out on me." Building Something Great TogetherMatthew’s story is a great reminder that a city’s growth isn’t just about the physical structures—it’s about the people who make it happen.
